Value Chain Selection and Market System Analysis for exports to GCC and EU (2025-2026)

Following up on an earlier study in 2018, Bureau Leeters conducted a value chain selection and market system analysis study, aiming to identify the most potential fresh fruit and vegetables crops for exports to markets in the region and Europe. The study, which was conducted by Jos Leeters in cooperation with a team of Lebanese experts, was commissioned by the International Labour Organisation (ILO), as part of the PROSPECTS?program and as the first step towards a multi-year intervention in the Lebanese horticulture sector.

The ILO is the only tripartite United Nations (UN) agency, since 1919, that brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 Member States, to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programs promoting decent work for all women and men. The ILO is devoted to promoting social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights, pursuing its founding mission that social justice is essential to universal and lasting peace.

PROSPECTS brings together the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the ILO, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the World Bank to address the growing impact of forced displacement. By the end of 2023, UNHCR reported 117.3 million people forcibly displaced worldwide. Launched in 2019, PROSPECTS operates across eight countries (Egypt, Ethiopia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Sudan, and Uganda), entered its second phase in 2024, and works across 4 pillars: 1st Education and skills; 2nd Employment and economic inclusion; 3rd Protection and social protection and 4th Critical infrastructure.
